CCOQ Column Cap Only, Quick-Install
Product Details
The CCOQ is designed to provide strong column-beam connections on top of steel columns. The column cap features a design without legs, enabling a field-welded attachment to steel columns and posts. The seat of the column cap provides additional surface area for bearing that extends beyond each side of the column. This helps to distribute the load from the beam and provide support for the connection. The CCOQ uses Strong-Drive® SDS Heavy-Duty Connector screws to provide fast installation and to attach to a greater net section area of the column than a bolt attachment normally entails.
Key Features
- The SDS screws provide a lower profile than standard through bolts
- Diamond holes for temporary fastening
Material
- CCOQ3, CCOQ4, CCOQ4.62, CCOQ6, — 7 gauge; all others — 3 gauge
Finish
- No coating. Some models available in HDG; see Corrosion Information.
Installation
- Fasten with 1/4" x 2 1/2" Strong-Drive SDS Heavy-Duty Connector screws, which are provided with the column cap. (Lag screws will not achieve the same load.) Use stainless-steel Strong-Drive screws with stainless-steel connectors.
- May be ordered for field welding to pipe or other columns. Weld by designer.
Options
- For end conditions, see ECCOQ.
- For rough-cut lumber sizes, provide dimensions.
- Other custom column caps are available. Contact Simpson Strong-Tie.
Ordering Information
- Many combinations of beam and post sizes can be manufactured. Refer to Post-to-Beam Selector.

- Uplift loads have been increased for earthquake or wind loading with no further increase allowed. Reduce where other loads govern.
- Downloads shall be reduced where limited by capacity of the post.
- Uplift loads do not apply to spliced conditions.
- Spliced conditions must be detailed by the designer to transfer tension loads between spliced members by means other than the column cap.
- HSS column width should match beam width. CCOQ4.62 may use 3 1/2″ HSS, CCOQ6 may use 5″ HSS and CCOQ8 may use 7″ HSS.
- HSS minimum column depth shall be 3″ for W2 ≤ 3 5/8 and 4″ for W2 > 3 5/8″.
- HSS column and weld by designer.
- Beam depth must be a minimum of 7″.
- For 5 1/4″ engineered lumber, use 5 1/2″ models.
