ECCOQ End Column Cap Legs Omitted, Quick-Install

The ECCOQ is designed to provide strong column-beam connections in end-of-beam applications on top of steel members. The column cap features a design without legs, enabling a field-welded attachment to steel columns and beams. The seat of the column cap provides additional surface area for bearing that extends beyond the side of the column. This helps distribute the load from the beam and provide support for the connection. The ECCOQ uses Strong-Drive® SDS Heavy-Duty Connector screws for fast installation and to attach to a greater net section area of the column than a bolt attachment normally entails.

Key Features

  • The SDS screws provide a lower profile than standard through bolts
  • Diamond holes for temporary fastening

Material

  • ECCOQ3, ECCOQ4, ECCOQ4.62, ECCOQ6 — 7 gauge; all others — 3 gauge

Finish

  • No coating

Installation

  • Fasten with 1/4" x 2 1/2" Strong-Drive SDS Heavy-Duty Connector screws, which are provided with the column cap. (Lag screws will not achieve the same load.) Use stainless-steel Strong-Drive screws with stainless-steel connectors.
  • May be ordered for field welding to pipe or other columns. Weld by designer.

Options

  • For rough-cut lumber sizes, provide dimensions.
  • Other custom column caps are available. Contact Simpson Strong-Tie.

  1. Uplift loads have been increased for earthquake or wind loading with no further increase allowed. Reduce where other loads govern.
  2. Downloads shall be reduced where limited by capacity of the post.
  3. HSS column width should match beam width. ECCOQ4.62 may use 3 1/2″ HSS, ECCOQ6 may use 5″ HSS, and ECCOQ8 may use 7″ HSS.
  4. HSS minimum column depth shall be W2.
  5. HSS column and weld by designer.
  6. Beam depth must be a minimum of 7″.
  7. For 5 1/4″ engineered lumber, use 5 1/2″ models.
