H7Z Hurricane Tie

Seismic and Hurricane Ties

This product's information may differ depending on the category of use. You are currently viewing details related to Seismic and Hurricane Ties. You can also view product information related to the category: Roof Truss and Rafter Connectors, Ties, and Straps for Cold-Formed Steel Construction

The H7Z is a hurricane tie designed for moderate-to-high uplift loads in wood and CFS construction. As part of a continuous load path, the H7Z ties the rafter or truss to both the top plate and the stud. The unique, versatile design allows the tie to be folded over the top of the rafter or truss for a secure fit.

Key Features

  • Provides a connection between the truss or rafter and the wall of the structure that helps resist wind and seismic forces
  • Embossment in bend line strengthens connection
  • Use also for a variety of connections where one member crosses another

Material

  • 16 ga.

Finish

  • ZMAX® coating; see Corrosion Information

Installation

  • Use all specified fasteners; see General Notes.
  • Hurricane ties do not replace solid blocking.
  • When installing ties on plated trusses (on the side opposite the truss plate) do not fasten through the truss plate from behind. This can force the truss plate off of the truss and compromise truss performance.

  1. See Straps and Ties General Notes.
  2. Allowable loads are for one anchor. A minimum rafter thickness of 2 1/2” must be used when framing anchors are used on each side of the joist and on the same side of the plate (exception: connectors installed such that nails on opposite side don't interfere).
  3. Allowable loads in the F1 direction are not intended to replace diaphragm boundary members and do not account for possible cross-grain bending of the truss or rafter members.
  4. When cross-grain bending or cross-grain tension cannot be avoided in the members, mechanical reinforcement to resist such forces shall be considered by the designer.
  5. Fasteners: Nail dimensions in the table are listed diameter by length. For additional information, see Fastener Types and Sizes Specified for Simpson Strong-Tie Connectors.
  6. Using Strong-Drive SD Connector (SD9112) for 0.131” x 1 1/2”, Strong-Drive SD Connector (SD9212) for 0.131” x 2 1/2” (and longer) will get the same load as nails.
